Bands I want to see live: I don’t see many bands live, but I also have nothing against seeing a band live if the opportunity arises. If the question were “bands I would enjoy seeing live if the opportunity arose,” I can think of dozens (most recently I saw Warpaint live with my wife and that was a blast); if the question were “bands I must see live before I die,” the answer would be “none.”

Songs I dislike from my favorite band: Trying to think of the worst song by the best band, or an inexplicably bad song by a band with no other inexplicably bad songs. I guess what I’ll say is that the more I listen to Revolver the more I come to dislike almost every song on it. I’m in a “dislike spiral” with that one at the moment.

Most attractive musicians (dead or alive) is tough! I’m going to keep this to “alive,” I think, just for sanity’s sake. I honestly have a hard time recalling the looks of many musicians I like, and often a musician’s looks are known to me but separate from how I “hear” them. What comes to mind immediately: Sade, Kylie Minogue, Rachel Stevens, Shakira, Dolly Parton. At this point I’m struggling and resorting to Google and year-end lists, even though I know “most attractive” may or may not have anything to do with “best albums.”

Of this year’s artists, the ones that immediately “clicked” in my brain as attractive when I searched the list: Norah Jones, Kellie Pickler, Azealia Banks, Usher, Cassie. From 2011: Dev, Sunny Sweeney, Anthony Hamilton, Cher Lloyd, Miranda Lambert, Beyonce, Julian Casablancas, Robin Thicke, Jennifer Lopez. From 2010: Kelis, Ke$ha, Marina from the Diamonds, Trey Songz, Erykah Badu, Liz Phair, Waka Flocka Flame. Looking over the lists, though, I think that lots of artists (most artists, maybe?) are attractive in some way. Question is both whether I associate their looks with their music (Marina is beautiful but her image doesn’t sync up with what I heard on Family Jewels) and whether I think their image and music are in some ways inseparable.

Often I have some weird “persona/image/music” blend going on that’s more complicated than “attractive” (Britney comes to mind as someone who’s attractive but whom I’m unable to think of without making some pretty complex musical/social/etc. associations) or (more often) I just can’t really remember what the artist looks like.

Trying to scan my memory for a time I’ve ever had a crush on a music celebrity and I’m drawing a blank. I remember having consistent and intense crushes on Thora Birch and “Alex Mack” (Larisa Oleynik) when I was in grade school, and then moving on to actual people I knew through middle and high school. At that point, “attractive” is more of a nebulous quality that’s not always related to attraction.
